Dr. Barry and Judith Katzen '63 Scholarship for Innovation

The Scholarship for Innovation was established in 2016 to support students who have demonstrated an interest and ability in innovation across multiple disciplines.

Dr. Katzen (MBSHS Class of 1963, Hall of Fame inductee 2007) is a practicing physician who has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications and multiple textbooks. He serves as Chief Medical Innovation Officer of Baptist Health South Florida.

"Innovation is responsible for meaningful change in virtually all facets of life. Whether in science, arts, or culture, innovation challenges the status quo and asks the question 'How can we make things better or find solutions for an unmet need?' Innovation and invention are quite different but frequently connect. Successful innovation is necessary to move worthwhile inventions forward."

This scholarship is intended to provide support for a student who has demonstrated the characteristics of innovative thinking and interest in the processes of innovation in science, technology, or the arts.
