About this scholarship

Seth Werner and Bobby Flam, two prominent members of the Class of '63, created this scholarship in 2024.

Seth Werner is Chairman/CEO of Harbour Real Estate Investments, Inc. and has been a leading entrepreneur in South Florida for over 40 years.

Bobby Flam
Bobby Flam, MBSHS Class of '63 and Hall of Fame inductee.

Bobby Flam, a member of the Miami Beach Senior High School Hall of Fame, made history as the proprietor of Jumbo's Restaurant. Jumbo's was one of the first restaurants to desegregate during the tumultuous, tense racial times of the sixties: Bobby opened the front doors of Jumbo's to African American customers, and the following year integrated his staff.

In 2005, Jumbo's was honored in the U.S. Congressional Record on its Golden Anniversary and recognized as a national and international civil rights landmark which helped end segregation while ushering in a new age of race relations in Miami. In 2008, the James Beard Foundation honored the restaurant in the category of "America's Classics" for its historical significance and Famous Fried Chicken and Fried Shrimp.

The scholarship is given to a minority student entering the Hospitality field.
